Shannon Falls

Cross another location off my places-to-go-to list...

This afternoon I drove up to Shannon Falls to check out the 3rd highest falls in the province, having never been there before (though I've driven past numerous times).

Along the way I got to experience some of the road work under way to make good on the Province's promise to improve the road for the 2010 Olympics.

While just about the whole thing (from Horseshoe Bay to Shannon Falls) is being worked on at the moment I found the delays very tolerable - being on holidays can give you that perspective I suppose. The people who have to drive the route every day would probably disagree, but it should be a much better road when it's all done.

As for this shot, it really needs something more in the composition to give a sense of scale, although the part of the falls you can see from the observation point isn't really as high as I'd expected. I have a feeling that there's a lot more that you can't see - as there's no way that this was 335 meters of vertical drop. I'd guess that what's shown in this picture is at most a third of that. That was great! And thanks for a new spot I'll visit during my stressed out days! I used to go to the beach and pick rocks - but now I suppose I just need to click on over hear! Serious Great Work!
