Gibsons, BC
Earlier this week I got a call from Derek, an old friend from highschool whom I hadn't seen for several years. Over dinner I discovered that he was headed to Gibsons to shoot a wedding this weekend. I'd never been to Gibsons but planned to rectify this situation some time over my holidays anyway so this seemed an excellent opportunity to actually get on with it and go there, and give him a ride to boot.
My visit there was a bit shorter than expected, since we missed the planned ferry by about half a row of cars (D'oh! - my fault) and had to wait two additional hours for the next ferry. But that was okay, it was still a great day, including a meal at (the originally fictional) Molly's Reach.
During the day, particularly while waiting for the ferry, I was able to gather some very useful photography tips from Derek; he's been an on/off professional photographer for the past 20+ years and knows a thing or two or thousand that I don't.
By the way, "originally fictional" refers to the fact that, at the time that The Beachcombers was filmed (it ran for 19 years!), this wasn't an actual restaurant but a sound stage for the show. It only became a real restaurant some time after the show went out of production.
Typical tourist activity or not, I just couldn't be in Gibsons for my first visit and not have something to eat there!
