Late Dragonfly
Okay, so it's only been a couple of posts since the last dragonfly picture, but it's been three weeks and this is the first shot this week that I really wanted to post. Besides, it's my blog...
I've been trying to savor as much of the remnants of summer as I can before it's gone completely. This means that I've been stopping off at the park after work most days, and it seems like I can always find something to shoot there, though the results aren't always as encouraging. Today I was back to shooting dragonflies, and while I 'caught' this one in the same place as the last one I have my doubts that it's actually the same bug.
While I don't usually bother mentioning the technical aspects of my images, I did want to point out that this shot had a shutter speed of 1/320th of a second, slightly faster than the previous picture. Based on a couple of the other shots from today it appears that you need a shutter speed of at least 1/640th - or faster - in order to freeze the wings completely. Hmmm. Guess I better start saving up for that 70-200 f/2.8L lens... maybe even the one with image stabilization... Anyone got an extra $2500 to spare?
