Haven't had much time or energy to work on pictures lately, but thought I'd take a stab at a couple this evening. Not sure if I'm happy with the results or not, but if I wait until I've made a decision nothing will get posted at all, so here we go.

This (apparently) abandoned gas station is on the road out to Cultus Lake. Although taken in fairly early morning light which is normally good, in this case it didn't work out so well as the sun is behind the station rather than in front of it. I don't think I`d do any better at any other time of the day though, so I'll have to live with this lighting.

Played around with a few different ideas for processing. The first and third pictures we processed similarly, while the middle one was actually processed about two weeks ago and has been sitting waiting for some attention since.

Three

Okay, so the crappy weather and my return to work today seem to have stimulated me to go back and look at some of the stuff I shot over my holiday to see what I should be posting, since I posted just one picture during the 6 weeks!.

For the first one up I'm going to try something a little different - these are three versions of the same image. One is the original image, without any post-processing at all except cropping. The next is an identical crop of that image, with considerable processing in Photoshop - playing with it if you will, and the last is an almost identical crop first processed in Photomatrix pro as an HDR then with some secondary processing in Photoshop.

I'd be curious to know what everyone (anyone?) thinks, and which you like best (if any).

Pancake Beginnings

For a brief break from bug pictures (more of those to come though!) I thought I'd post this shot taken last week at Cultus Lake. It's become a bit of a tradition now that when I visit my parents at the "campsite" that we go blueberry picking just up the hill, usually on my last day there so that I can bring home enough berries to keep me in blueberry pancakes for the whole year.

It almost looked like we wouldn't get to go this year... but there was a long enough break in the rain that we had time to pick half-again as many blueberries for my freezer as last year.

[I posted a similar shot about two years ago, for those paying attention, but as it's been two years and we all needed a break from bugs, I figured no one would mind.]
