Dried Grass and Dandelions
After all my whining while I was on holidays a while back, summer is finely, truly, here.
Having already had a moderate sun exposure this morning I spent a little bit of time this fine afternoon driving around to some not-too-far-away arts supply shops trying to find someone (anyone!) who sells dry mount paper as I've a bunch of 12"x18"s that are starting to show significant gravity effects (sagging) and need to be mounted properly.
As I headed back toward home, I decided it was much too nice to go straight there. Yet with the insulting price of gas (110.9!!!) these days I had to be reasonable about where I would actually end up, so inevitably I ended up at familiar Fraser River Park. I always seem to be able to find something new (and lots of old stuff too) to take pictures of at the park.
This shot isn't very good, and I knew at the time that it wouldn't be, but I had to try. What I was trying to capture is this bit of mostly dried long grass with lots of seeding dandelions, in some wonderful light filtering through the trees. I searched and searched for the right vantage point and tried a number of different things with the camera, and yet, alas, this was the best I could come up with. It was not what I wanted, but it was what I got.

There's something understated about the beauty of grass thats just lying on the side of the road. Kind of like a random, chaotic beauty. Have you ever followed the train tracks along Arbutus street?
This photo reminds me of the grass that grows on each side of the track; to the right you can hear the cars passing by and to the left you can hear people mowing their lawn on a lazy summer afternoon.
