Sunrise on the Farm

I'm really not a morning person. Really. But, in spite of this, I dragged my sleepy butt out of bed again this morning while it was still dark so that I could get out and try to capture some of the absolutely spended light that we've been enjoying the last couple of mornings. Unfortunately, it's gone by about 8:10, and you have to be at the "right" site to capture your picture during the 20 minutes or so that it lasts.

Today was a close call - the destination (Tsawwassen area) should have been well within the alloted travel time. After scraping the windshield and then waiting in traffic for the road work being done on the tunnel I ended up arriving on-station still looking for a strategic spot when the sun first came over the horizon. It was a bit of a scramble to find the best spot, finally settled for where I was rather than miss the light completely.

This shot is from the tail end of the light. It's one that I liked the best (of what I shot) but fails in a number of ways. It's a little too dark in the foreground, and fails to show the frost in the grass. A shot from the same location when the sun was 10 minutes lower would undoubtably have been more to my liking, but at that time I was preoccupied with other picture possibilities.

I'm tempted to go back to the same spot tomorrow (well, actually it'd be later today now) but the weather forecast doesn't leave me optimistic so I suspect I'll sleep in instead. In the meantime, I'm still trying to decide whether any of the other pictures are worth posting... Posted by Picasa
